25th Anniversary: Montpelier Mansion – Carriage Entrance

This canvas was added to the Portfolio on February 26, 2004. The Montpelier Mansion, a National Historic Landmark, is one of the finest examples of 18th century Georgian architecture in the state of Maryland. Grace, my wife, hiked through a particularly massive snowfall in 2003 to get a few photos. We did not realize until after the painting had been started that she had actually photographed the rear, or “Carriage Entrance,” of the building. Actually, I could not be happier with how this turned out… and the added touch of the candles in the windows was entirely Graceʼs idea.
